Antonio Conte has defended Tiemoue Bakayoko disappointing start to his Chelsea FC career.
The France international endured a humiliating night at Watford last week after the tenacious midfielder was sent off inside 30 minutes.
Bakayoko conceded possession four times before two reckless yellow cards led to the summer signing’s dismissal before Chelsea FC went on to lose 4-1 to their London rivals.
The 23-year-old move to the defending Premier League champions in a £40m deal from Ligue 1 holders AS Monaco in the 2017 summer transfer window.
Bakayoko was put under pressure before the season started after the Blues made the surprise decision to sell Nemanja Matic in a £40m deal to their title rivals Manchester United.
The powerful midfielder has scored two goals and has made two assists in 24 appearances in the Premier League so far this season.
Bakayoko is suspended for Chelsea FC’s home clash against 20th-placed West Brom in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge on Monday night.
But Conte attempted to defend his summer signing despite his poor performance at Watford.
“He’s a young player. Only 22. Last season he won the title in France with Monaco and played in the Champions League,” Conte told his pre-match media conference at Cobham on Friday afternoon.
“To arrive in this league and adapt yourself very quickly is not simple but my task is to try to help him and every single player improve.”
Chelsea FC are in fourth place in the Premier League table and a mere point ahead of Tottenham Hotspur with a place in next season’s Champions League up for grabs.
