Mahrez and Bailey to sign, Carroll to stay at West Ham – Chelsea transfer survey results

With just under two weeks to go in the transfer window, it’s clear that Chelsea fans expect some new additions to the Blues squad.

Antonio Conte’s side sit fourth in the Premier League table after a run of disappointing results, but a couple of new signings could provide the lift which the club needs ahead of a busy domestic schedule.

With a top four place still to play for and the Champions League tie against Barcelona to come, football.london asked Chelsea fans who they would like to see sign on the dotted line at Stamford Bridge before the deadline passes on 31 January.

If Chelsea could make one signing in January who would it be?

Supporters were asked on social media to name their dream signing in the current transfer window.

As expected, the problem position of back-up striker reared its head yet again, with fans calling for Chelsea to sign a forward to provide competition for Alvaro Morata.

With Michy Batshuayi linked with a possible loan move to La Liga side Sevilla, the Blues would be short in a position where they have struggled recently.

Morata has only scored one goal in eight league appearances, while Batshuayi continues to be used by Conte in cup games only.

After missing out on Fernando Llorente in the summer, Chelsea are reportedly ready to sign West Ham striker Andy Carroll on a permanent basis this month.

The Hammers are thought to want £20 million for the forward, who has 18 months left on his £70,000-a-week deal.

Conte is keen to ease the workload on Morata, while any deal for Carroll would also allow Batshuayi to complete a loan move away.

Elsewhere, fans have touted Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez as a potential signing.

The Algerian playmaker was hugely impressive in the recent goalless draw at Stamford Bridge, and his future at the King Power remains uncertain.

Mahrez formalised his desire to leave Leicester in the summer, handing in a transfer request in May.

But a proposed switch to Roma could not be completed after the clubs failed to agree on a fee.

Despite his excellent performances for the Foxes this season, Chelsea are not thought to be interested in the 26-year-old this month.

Chelsea’s long-standing hunt for a new left-back is set to continue, with target Alex Sandro unlikely to join from Juventus.

Talks have failed to result in a compromise with the Serie A champions reportedly demanding £60 million for the Brazilian.

However, Chelsea are thought to have switched their attention to Porto’s Alex Telles and Roma’s Emerson Palmieri.

Jamaican international Leon Bailey is another name which has been linked with the reigning Premier League champions.

The Bayer Leverkusen winger has been in superb form this campaign after joining the Bundesliga side last January.

“Of course I have a dream club, but I will not tell,” Bailey has said previously.

“Basically, England was and still is my dream. And if I keep working hard, I’m sure it will work someday. The change to Bayer was just the right step for my development.”

However, a former tweet from 2015 has resurfaced which shows him in a Chelsea shirt with the caption ‘Dream big #Humble’.

  1. We dont need to sign a back up striker, we need to sign a main striker as we don’t have one. All we have is back up striker pretending to be main.
