Barcelona have made their opening offer for David Luiz as the defender moves closer to sealing a move away from Chelsea, according to reports.
The Brazilian had a massive falling out with Antonio Conte earlier this season, with Luiz blamed for the disastrous defeat to Roma and subsequently dropped from the squad.
He has since picked up a knee injury that has prevented him from winning back his place in the side from youngster Andreas Christensen, and has not played since the end of October.
Luiz’s bust-up with Conte has seen a host of major European clubs show interest in signing him in January, with Real Madrid and even Arsenal linked with a move.
But according to Telefoot, it is Barcelona who now hold the advantage and have contacted Chelsea to propose a loan move in the upcoming January window.
The Catalan side are allowing Javier Mascherano to move to Hebei China Fortune and are in need of reinforcements at centre-back.
It was even claimed by Spanish radio station Catalunya Radio that Luiz had travelled to Barcelona to see a knee specialist, and used the time in Catalonia to reach out to Barca about a transfer.
Chelsea are prepared to offload Luiz, and are well-stocked at centre-back especially with Christensen performing so well since replacing the Brazilian.
Barca’s offer, which is a straight loan, would also suit Luiz who fears he will not win back his place under Conte and wants regular football to try and force his way back into Brazil coach Tite’s plans ahead of the World Cup.
