Michael Emenalo singled out Andreas Christensen for special praise after his surprise exit from Stamford Bridge.
Emenalo left his role as Chelsea‘s technical director after the Blues’ 1-0 Premier League victory over Manchester United, having been at the club for a decade.
The former Nigeria international announced he would be stepping down from his position where he’s been in charge of player recruitment, the academy and Chelsea’s loan network.
Emenalo has been a driving force behind the club’s policy to send a host of young starlets away from the club to further develop and Chelsea currently have 34 players out on loan.
Christensen spent two seasons with Bundesliga outfit Borussia Monchengladbach before returning as part of Antonio Conte‘s squad this year and he put in an assured display against Manchester United on Sunday.
And Emenalo believes the Dane’s performance was the perfect leaving present as it proved that Chelsea’s controversial loan system is working.
‘Andreas, unbeknownst to him, gave me a wonderful parting gift yesterday because his performance is indicative of what development is all about,’ he told Chelsea TV after his departure. ‘Development equals humility, hard work and timing and Andreas has done all three.
‘He’s shown great humility to go on loan and work very hard while he was there and gain the experience which is needed, and the timing is right for him now to step in and show what he’s learnt during those periods of development.
