It was the week of Ruben Loftus-Cheek, but it ended on a sour note.
The midfielder was the surprise star of England’s 0-0 draw against Germany, and he started again last night against Brazil.
England put in a solid performance through the game and just lacked a little connection between their solid defence and their occasionally threatening attack.
Loftus-Cheek would have been the man to provide that connection, but unfortunately he came off injured in the first half.
It’s pretty likely Gareth Southgate would have given someone else the chance after half-time, so Ruben didn’t miss out on too much, but it will worry Roy Hodgson whose Palace squad are already stretched thin.
It will also worry Chelsea fans, who have enjoyed watching RLC for both the national team and for Palace. Missing more time this season will set Ruben back further in his development, and nobody wants to see that.
