Antonio Conte has blasted the work-rate of David Luiz and confirmed he “doesn’t know” if the Brazilian has a future at Stamford Bridge.
There were rumours circulating before the game that Conte and Luiz had a bust-up behind closed doors.
The Blues’ boss dismissed that speculation in an interview with Sky Sports before the game – insisting that he was dropped for “tactical” reason.
But after Chelsea’s win against United the Italian manager seemed less convincing.
When asked if Luiz has a future at Stamford Bridge, Conte said: “I don’t know.
“He has to work really hard otherwise they are on the bench or in the stand.”
Alvaro Morata scored the only goal of the game on the 55th minute to ensure Chelsea remain fourth in the table – three points ahead off fifth-placed Liverpool.
The win also eased some pressure on boss Conte and he outlined how important the victory is to his side.
“It’s an important victory,” Conte said.
“When you play against Manchester United it’s always a massive game. We know very well this team is very strong.
“This type of win is important for our confidence. We showed great desire and passion to win this kind of game.
“We can win or lose but our spirit must be this.
“Last season our spirit was in every game – we started this season with a lot of problems. We were up and down. This game showed if we want we can.”
