Chelsea plotting fresh move for Arsenal star

Chelsea and Manchester City are ready to move for Jack Wilshere if the England international fails to agree a new contract with Arsenal, according to the Daily Mail.

The 25-year-old is among a clutch of players whose current deals at the Emirates Stadium are set to expire in the summer.

Arsenal are reportedly set to begin negotiations with Wilshere in the coming weeks and are hopeful they can reach an agreement with the midfielder who has made an eye-catching comeback in recent weeks.

Wilshere spent last season on loan at Bournemouth, a spell which was cut short by a broken leg in April, but he has made a positive impression since returning to the Arsenal first team, predominantly in cup competitions.

Premier League rivals City and Chelsea, however, are said to be monitoring the situation, hopeful Wilshere will opt to leave and follow the examples of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil who appear to have ruled out the possibility of signing new deals.

Both Pep Guardiola and Antonio Conte require a further injection of British players who would help boost their quota of home-grown players in European matches.

Chelsea were reported to have been interested in Sanchez last summer, but City appear to have won the race to sign the Chile international and are set to bid £20m to land their main target in January.
