Willy Caballero has reportedly passed a medical with Chelsea, who now expect to confirm the signing of the former Manchester City goalkeeper on a free transfer in the coming days.
The Argentine shot-stopper was not kept on after the expiry of his contract at the Etihad Stadium, despite some solid performances for the club down the years as a capable backup.
Caballero now looks set to fulfil a similar role at Stamford Bridge as the Blues look to bring him in as a replacement for Asmir Begovic after his recent move to Bournemouth.
Thibaut Courtois remains the undisputed number one for Chelsea, but Caballero could prove a decent reserve after showing his quality when called upon for City and starring at his previous club Malaga.
The 35-year-old also had offers from newly-promoted Premier League pair Newcastle and Brighton, but is edging closer to completing his move to Chelsea after passing a medical, according to the Daily Mail.
After a quiet start to the summer, things finally look to be coming together for Chelsea, who have also been strongly linked with a £60million move for Juventus left-back Alex Sandro.
The Blues are also thought to be working on finally landing Romelu Lukaku from Everton in another big-money move.
