N’Golo Kante has told how his Chelsea team-mates congratulated him after he was named the PFA Player of the Year.
The midfielder has enjoyed an exceptional season and as well as putting Chelsea on the verge of winning a Premier League and FA Cup double he’s been picking up individual awards as well.
This week he was named Football Writers’ Player of the Year which followed on from having won the PFA Player of the Year.
Kante told how his team-mates showed their delight when they first saw him after he had won the PFA award.
‘They gave me a round of applause and that’s very important because without them I couldn’t receive this award,’ he told Chelsea’s matchday programme as he recalled the reaction.
‘We are having a good season and I hope we can achieve something bigger than this award because I think football is about sticking together.’
Kante missed last night’s win over Middlesbrough but can expect to return to the side on Friday when Chelsea have the chance to clinch the title against West Brom.
He added: ‘I feel good on the pitch because of my team-mates and they helped me a lot to get this award. We are playing very well together, we want to win and we want to give our best to win trophies for the club and for the fans.’
