Chelsea reportedly set to offer €38m for Bundesliga star on a three-year deal

Chelsea set to offer €38m for Bundesliga star Hakan Calhanoglu on a three-year deal

Turkish-Football recently reported that Chelsea have been keeping close tabs on Bundesliga star Hakan Calhanoglu.

The Blues made an enquiry for Calhanoglu over the winter transfer window but Bayer Leverkusen turned down all offers.

Calhanoglu’s agent Bektas Demirtas was quoted as saying that his client still has another three years on his contract but that if an offer is made matching Bayer’s asking price they could consider a transfer.

“Hakan is currently contracted to Leverkusen for another three years,” Demirtas said.

“If there is an offer which matches Bayer’s valuation and which suits Hakan, then my client is open to leave. However, the final decision lies with the club.”

Turkish media outlet Ajanspor have revealed that Chelsea are now prepared to offer €38 million for the Turkish international playmaker which would activate his release clause.

Per the source, the Blues are planning to offer a three-year deal for the 23-year-old.

Calhanoglu is currently suspended from playing domestic and international football after FIFA imposed a ban for a payment dispute with Trabzonspor dating back to when he was aged 17.

Trabzonspor claim they paid Calhanoglu and his father – who was his agent at the time – a lump sum payment of €100,000 each to sign a professional contract with the club.

Calhanoglu signed for Karlshruher on a professional contract instead.

The attacking midfielder renowned for his free-kick taking ability was in impressive form until the ban.

Calhanoglu had seven goals and seven assists in 22 appearances for Bayer in all competitions.

The Bayer star will not be able to play for Turkey in the World Cup qualification games over the fourth month ban period either.
