Paul Merson looks ahead to Manchester City’s home clash against Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday
Paul Merson is tipping Chelsea and Manchester City to play out a draw in their Premier League clash at The Etihad on Saturday lunchtime.
The west London side head into the game in fine form in the Premier League following their resurgence under new boss Antonio Conte.
Chelsea came from a goal down to beat Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge on Saturday night as they stretched their winning run in the Premier League to seven games.
The Blues have earned plenty of praise for their impressive attacking performances in recent weeks, with Conte’s men having beating the likes of Everton and Manchester United.
Indeed, Chelsea lead the way at the top of the Premier League table and are currently a point clear of Liverpool in second place.
However, they are set for a stern test of their title credentials against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side.
And former Arsenal star Merson is expecting to see the two teams play out a draw at The Etihad.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Merson said: “The most important thing for Chelsea is not to lose.
“I think Man City have to win, but I think it will be a draw and it will be open.
“I watched City the other day against Burnley and they were a bit lackadaisical for me. It’s like: ‘Oh, it will happen’ and I just don’t think you can do that. If they go behind, like they did against Burnley, then I think they will be in trouble against Chelsea.
“The draw will be the result for me in an entertaining football match.”
