Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has apologised to the club’s fans for controversial comments he made during the summer regarding his future.
The Belgium international suggested he would review his Chelsea future when his contract expires and 2018 and admitted he missed aspects of living in Spain, where he had spent three highly successful seasons on loan at Atletico Madrid.
Courtois, who has conceded just two goals during Chelsea’s sensational 10-game winning streak which has catapulted them to the top of the Premier League, insists his comments were taken out of context and has reiterated his long-term commitment to Antonio Conte’s side.
‘I think sometimes my comments didn’t come out the way I meant,’ he said after Wednesday’s 1-0 win over Sunderland.
‘I can understand that they were frustrated but I never meant it that way.
‘They can clearly see that I am fully committed to this club, I want to win games and to win trophies for this club. I will do my very best for Chelsea.’
