Breaking news: Chelsea star returns to Stamford Bridge

Charly Musonda has returned to Chelsea for tests on his knee injury as Real Betis admit the midfielder’s loan could be ended in January.

The 20-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan with the Spanish club but extended his stay in the summer to the end of the current campaign.

But after an impressive spell last season, Musonda has struggled with injuries and has made just eight appearances so far this term.

Musonda is now back at Stamford Bridge to examine the extent of his injury and Betis’ sporting director Miguel Torrecilla admits the Belgian’s time at the club could end before the campaign finishes.

‘Chelsea have loaned out 46 or 48 players, including six who are ‘golden boys’, and Chelsea can ask for their medical team to examine them,’ he said.

‘We need to find out his condition and go from there with assessing what could happen with the transfer.

‘It is clear that it could cost Betis more if he does not get a run of matches.

‘It is normal for a big team to get their player back if he does not play.’
