Chelsea vs Arsenal – Match Preview

Football is back, and we all start the new season with the Community Shield. It is both Chelsea and Arsenal’s chance to win the first piece of silverware of the season, and the two London rivals will lock horns in the season’s first London Derby at Wembley.

Chelsea had been sweating on the fitness of Diego Costa and Gary Cahill, but Jose Mourinho has informed that both the players are fit for the clash.

Diego Costa had slightly injured his hamstring, while Cahill suffered a broken nose against Barcelona during the pre-season match.

Petr Cech will most likely be making his debut for Arsenal in an official match against Chelsea. Alexis Sanchez will miss the match due to an extended recovery break due to niggling injuries suffered during Copa America.

Jose Mourinho will most likely rest Diego Costa, given his history of hamstring issues, and will not want to take any chances before the start of the Premier League, which means it will be either Falcao or Remy upfront. In case Cahill is left out, Zouma will be starting, but Cahill is expected to start with a protective mask on his face.

Hazard, Oscar and Willian will be the trio behind the striker, with Matic and Fabregas in central midfield. Azpilicueta, Terry, Cahill and Ivanovic will be the back four with Courtois starting over new signing Begovic.

Arsenal are expected to field a similar formation to Chelsea’s, with Giroud as the target man, with Ramsey, Ozil and Oxlade-Chamberlain behind him. Cazorla and Coquelin will be in the midfield, with Monreal, Mertesacker, Koscielny and Bellerin as the back four. Big Pete will be manning the post.

Coquelin vs Fabregas

Fabregas is the main source of creativity in the centre of the park for Chelsea, and Arsenal midfielder Coquelin, who was great at breaking up play last season, will be given the responsibility of stopping Cesc.

Hazard vs Bellerin

Bellerin might be in for a rough evening if Hazard shows the same form he showed against Barcelona. Bellerin will surely have his hands full against Hazard, and will concentrate more on stopping Hazard rather than bombing forward.

Giroud vs Terry

Giroud, who has a big physical presence, and is good in the air, will be closely watched by John Terry. Terry will have to stay close to the Frenchman, and defend well.

– Arsenal has now gone 482 minutes without a goal against Chelsea.
– Arsene Wenger is yet to win a match against Jose Mourinho.
