Chelsea vs Hull City : Match Preview and Prediction

After their first setback of the season in last weekend’s Premier League encounter against Newcastle United at St. James’ Park, Chelsea bounced back with a convincing 3-1 win against Sporting CP at Stamford Bridge.

Though many important first team players were rested for the match, Chelsea never looked uncomfortable throughout the 90 minutes. Now Chelsea will look to get back into winning ways against Hull City on Saturday.

The biggest news in terms of availability for Chelsea, is that Cesc Fabregas will be suspended for this match after having collected his fifth yellow card of the season last weekend against Newcastle United. Nemanja Matic will return to the side having missed the match against Newcastle United due to a similar suspension. The rest of the Chelsea team is fairly fit and fresh. Eden Hazard, John Terry, Cesar Azpilicueta, Branislav Ivanovic and Oscar will return to the starting line-up after being rested against Sporting. Willian may miss out on a starting berth given Andre Schurrle’s performance on Wednesday. Mikel may keep his place in the centre of midfield in Fabregas’s absence. Meanwhile Nathan Ake remains sidelined due to a hamstring problem.

Hull City

Mohamed Diame is out with a knee injury while Robert Snodgrass remains a long-term absentee. Manager Steve Bruce may hand a start to captain Curtis Davies after leaving him on the bench for the last two matches. Nikica Jelavic may join Abel Hernandez in attack, after illness restricted the former to a late cameo against West Bromwich Albion. Gaston Ramirez is available after a ban having been sent off against Tottenham. Hatem Ben Arfa is unlikely to start after having seen his name omitted from the last two match-day squads. David Meyler or Stephen Quinn may start in midfield while Steve Bruce might recall Scotland international Andrew Robertson to the starting line-up.

Chelsea bounced back in style against Sporting CP after tasting their first defeat of the season at the hands of Newcastle United. With goals from Schurrle, Fabregas and John Obi Mikel, Chelsea eased through the match, though a host of their first team players were rested. Chelsea will be looking to extinguish any doubts about their title winning credentials with an impressive performance against Hull City. With only 4 points from a possible 9 in the last 3 matches, Jose Mourinho will have warned his players against any complacency that may have creeped in after their blistering start to the season. With still 3 points above second-placed Manchester City, Chelsea have nothing to panic as of yet, and are still considered as title favourites.

Hull City

With just 13 points from 15 matches, Hull City sit at 17th in the Premier League table. Last weekend’s goalless draw at home saw Hull City dropping into the relegation zone. They have failed to manage a win in their last 8 matches and manager Steve Bruce admitted that he felt a rare anxiety around the KC stadium after the final whistle last weekend. Hull City currently have 3 fewer points at this stage of the season than they had in 2009-10, when they were ultimately relegated.

Chelsea are unbeaten in their last 10 encounters against Hull City, with 8 wins and 2 draws. 4 of those wins have come in the Premier League. Both Loic Remy and Didier Drogba have scored 3 goals in 3 Premier League matches against Hull City.
