Jose Mourinho’s team is built around a solid defensive structure. He wants his attacking players to do their defensive duties whenever the team loses possession. This was the reason two-time player of the year Juan Mata lost his place in the team and was eventually sold to Manchester United. Andre Schurrle, on the other hand, groomed in the Bundes Liga, has an impressive habit of pressing and tracking back whenever the ball is lost to the opponents. Playing in the wings, he has a good ability to help out the full backs against the opponents’ winger or wing-back.

In this season, he has played two matches, where his defensive actions has resulted in taking back possession on two separate occasions. He works hard on the pitch. He tackles hard. He covers a lot of ground. He is a keen runner, the kind of player that suits Jose Mourinho. And if he continues to be so, this just might be his best season in club football.
