Chelsea appear to have a real star of the future on their hands.
Ethan Ampadu, the 17-year-old, has already represented the Blues’ first-team in competitive fixtures, and he was not allowed to leave on loan this season as Maurizio Sarri believes he has a role to play in his senior squad.
The former Exeter starlet has also been capped at international level by Wales, and he made his first competitive start for Ryan Giggs’ side on Thursday evening.
Ampadu played 67 minutes of Wales’ 4-1 defeat of the Republic of Ireland, putting in a starring performance and capping his display by assisting Aaron Ramsey for the third goal of the match.
Able to play in both defence and midfield, the teenager was selected in the latter position by Giggs, and he showed his incredible range of talents.
The assist for Ramsey’s goal was itself a perfect representation of Ampadu as a player; he first won possession just inside Ireland’s half, then made a powerful run with the ball forward to break through their defensive lines, before playing a perfect pass to Ramsey from which the Arsenal star fired into the back of the net.
Ampadu should be afforded quite a few opportunities to play for Chelsea this season due to their Europa League commitments, and Blues fans were delighted to see him perform so well on the international stage.
