Chelsea’s 25-man Europa League squad has one shock omission – but there’s a reason why

Maurizio Sarri has named his Europa League squad and there a few absentees.

Lucas Piazon has been added to Chelsea’s Premier League squad but he, Robert Green and midfielder Danny Drinkwater have not made it to the Europa League squad.

Talented defender Ethan Ampadu is included, but starlet Callum Hudson-Odoi has not been named. However, Blues fans should not be worried as he does not need to be registered on that list, as he is only 17 and has been at club for more than 2 years.

Hudson-Odoi has been rewarded with the No.20 shirt following his impressive displays in pre-season and Sarri has made it clear that the youngster is part of his plans this term.

The Blues will be in Europa League after missing out on a Champions League place for the second time in three seasons.

Having won the Premier League title under Antonio Conte in the 2016/17 season, the Blues missed out on the top four in May, meaning they will be in Europa League action this campaign along with London rivals Arsenal.

The draw for the competition took place in Monaco on Friday August 31 and Sarri’s side will face trips to Greece, Hungary and Belarus.

The FA Cup holders will start their campaign away at PAOK Salonika on September 20, before then facing MOL Vidi and BATE Borisov at Stamford Bridge in October.
