Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek is set to hold showdown talks with club officials this week over his future.
According to the Sun, the England World Cup star will seek a loan move again if new boss Maurizio Sarri cannot guarantee him regular match time.
After a successful loan spell at Crystal Palace last season and a strong showing at the World Cup in Russia, Loftus-Cheek wants to push on and prove his worth by playing week in week out.
Despite making 25 appearances for the Eagles last term and Chelsea making it clear they want to keep their man, it remains to be seen how much first-team football Sarri will give him.
The 22-year-old only came on as a 68th-minute substitute in the victory over Huddersfield and was cut completely from the squad against Arsenal on the weekend.
The signing of Mateo Kovacic on loan from Real Madrid has added further competition for Loftus-Cheek, though the exit of Tiemoue Bakayoko has created an extra space in the Chelsea squad.
Loftus-Cheek is minded to stay and fight for his place but Kovacic’s arrival could yet force him into a rethink.
And with the Premier League transfer window now closed, the powerful midfielder could still get loaned out to a club in Germany, France or Spain, with Schalke having been keen admirers.
Loftus-Cheek will hope for positive talks with Chelsea this week and look to get some much-needed minute against Newcastle this weekend at St James’ Park.
