CHELSEA are reportedly close to signing Nabil Fekir despite rumours of Liverpool reigniting their interest starting to emerge.
Chelsea and Liverpool have both been linked with Fekir, who came close to quitting Lyon back in June.
The 24-year-old underwent a medical with the Reds and was even snapped wearing their shirt in an interview with their in-house television channel.
Claims have today emerged suggesting Liverpool remain locked in negotiations for Fekir and would love to sign him before the transfer deadline on Thursday (5pm).
But Italian journalist Pietro Prota, who has close ties to Blues boss Maurizio Sarri, says Chelsea are now in pole position to sign Fekir.
“#RadioMercato the @Mercato del #ChelseaFC: Close #Fekir, about 50 mln is started. Assault on #Kovacic,” he tweeted.
Chelsea want Fekir to bring some stardust to their attack as they target a crack at the Premier League trophy.
Express Sport understands talks between both Lyon and the wrest London side took place this evening.
Should Liverpool miss out on Fekir, then many fans will be furious.
Jurgen Klopp chose not to secure his signature two months ago because of fears about his long-term history of knee problems.
And their loss could be Chelsea’s gain.
The Blues are accelerating their transfer plans and Fekir may not be the only arrival in west London.
Chelsea are understood to have agreed an eyewatering £71million deal for Kepa, who came close to joining Real Madrid in January.
And they are also determined to sign Mateo Kovacic on loan from Real Madrid.
