CHELSEA have a new midfield axis which former Newcastle striker Alan Shearer purring over their performance.
The Match of the Day pundit was full of praise for the duo who had never started a Premier League game together before yesterday.
New £50m signing Jorginho ably assisted N’Golo Kante in the Blues’ engine room as they ran out 3-0 winners over Huddersfield.
Earlier this summer, new Stamford Bridge boss Maurizio Sarri hijacked Manchester City’s attempts to sign the Italy international.
The duo worked together at Serie A side Napoli and Sarri was thrilled to see how the 26-year-old slotted in seamlessly alongside Kante.
Both Chelsea midfielders managed to get on the scoresheet as the Terriers were overwhelmed on opening day.
Jorginho excelled on his debut, expressing himself with a 94 per cent pass accuracy and by winning a couple tackles.
“Jorginho and Kante, the first time they’d ever played together,” Shearer said on the BBC programme.
“Once they got beyond the midfield there was lack of protection for the back three of Huddersfield.
“Kante finds himself in areas he normally wouldn’t because Jorginho was sitting and he doesn’t mind sitting.
“In fact he quite enjoys it. He picks the ball up and looks where Kante is [driving forward].
“They touch, they turn and they’re into them again. Clever from Jorginho with the penalty too.
“I think you’ll see more and more of that this season, so very promising signs for Chelsea.”
Chelsea welcome Arsenal to Stamford Bridge next Saturday (5.30pm).
