CHELSEA have completed a loan deal for Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic – so does that mean the Blues will let any of their stars leave before today’s transfer deadline?
Former Chelsea captain turned Sky Sports pundit Dennis Wise certainly thinks so.
Kovacic arrives at Stamford Bridge as part of the deal that saw goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois head in the other direction.
The number of midfielders on Chelsea’s books has started to pile up and Wise can see up to two leaving.
Tiemoue Bakayoko and Danny Drinkwater have both been linked with exits.
“They’ve got a fair few in that position that can play there,” Wise said.
“So it’s a fight for places, it really is.
“It will be interesting whether or not we see one or two Chelsea midfield players go by the end of today, you never know.
“And Europe goes on for another couple of weeks, it could still happen.
“Bakayoko, Danny Drinkwater. I think they won’t feature too much.”
Bakayoko and Drinkwater both joined Chelsea from Monaco and Leicester respectively last summer.
However, the duo failed to nail down a starting spot under Antonio Conte last term.
And new boss Maurizio Sarri may see them as surplus to requirements.
