As reported by Le 10 Sport, Ligue 1 outfit Marseille are eyeing up a move for Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud – but the Blues must not be tempted into any deal, especially following Michy Batshuayi’s loan move to Valencia.
The time for English teams to do business may be up, but clubs are still at risk of losing players with the transfer window open for foreign clubs to do deals up until August 31.
Marseille supposedly want to bring World Cup winner Giroud back to his homeland this summer, although apparently he isn’t their top target.
But Chelsea do need to brace themselves in case the French side come calling, and reject any offer they may lodge because they cannot afford to lose him as well as Batshuayi.
It was a bit of a surprise to see the Belgian loaned out again, especially after his successful stint with Borussia Dortmund last term, but to lose him and Giroud would be disastrous.
Concerningly, Alvaro Morata isn’t yet showing signs of improvement, and Tammy Abraham is still very young and without much experience playing for a top six side.
The Blues cannot entertain any interest from Marseille for Giroud, who certainly brings something different to the table in that he is a fine target man, with a very repsectable goals record and an eye for the spectacular.
He may not be everyone’s cup of tea but, given the current situation, Maurizio Sarri would be a fool to let him leave, even if he wanted to use Eden Hazard centrally.
