Chelsea FC is considering a deal to sign Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel this summer, according to Sky Sports News reporter Dharmesh Sheth.
The FA Cup winners are facing the real possibility of losing Thibaut Courtois in the summer transfer window.
Courtois hasn’t committed to a contract extension with the west London side and Chelsea FC number one would be free to leave for nothing next summer.
The Blues are already looking at potential replacements for Courtois in the current transfer window.
AS Roma shot sopper Alisson Becker has been touted as a candidate to replace Courtois in the Blues goal next term but Chelsea FC would face competition from Liverpool FC and Real Madrid.
Chelsea FC have been linked with a surprise swoop to sign Leicester goalkeeper Schmeichel in recent days following Denmark’s exit from the World Cup after a penalty shootout loss to Croatia.
Schmeichel is a Premier League winner with Leicester following their success under Claudio Ranieri in 2015-16.
Sky Sports News reporter Sheth confirmed Chelsea FC and AS Roma are both considering a swoop to sign the Danish shot stopper this summer.
“An alternative to all of this is Leicester goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel,” Sheth told the Transfer Talk podcast.
“We are told both Chelsea and Roma are looking at him because they are preparing for life without their current number one.”
Chelsea FC were 1-0 winners against Manchester United in the FA Cup final at Wembley last season.
Chelsea try to hi-jack Manchester City’s move for Serie A star
Chelsea is attempting to hijack Manchester City’s move for Napoli star Jorginho, reports television channel Sportitalia, via Football Italia.
The city has been locked in talks with Napoli for the signing of Jorginho since the end of last season but is struggling to get a move over the line.
Pep Guardiola wants deals for Jorginho and Leicester winger Riyad Mahrez done before pre-season training starts on Monday but that looks increasingly unlikely.
The Premier League champions are closing in on a €55m transfer for Jorginho but now Chelsea is reportedly ready to pay €5m more than their rivals to sign the midfielder.
Chelsea are in talks with Napoli to make Maurizio Sarri their new manager and believe by agreeing to pay more for Jorginho it will convince the Serie A side to let Sarri move for nothing.
Jorginho has emerged as one of the best midfielders in Europe in the last two years and if Chelsea is successful in hi-jacking City’s move for the 26-year-old it would be a huge blow to City.
