Liverpool has swooped to sign Isaac Christie-Davies from Chelsea after his contract expired at Stamford Bridge.
The highly rated 20-year-old is the latest in a long line of Chelsea prospects to have left the club in the search of a greater pathway to first team football and the lure of Anfield has proven too much.
The young midfielder has long been touted as one of the best young prospects in the famed Chelsea academy but he now joins the likes of Dominic Solanke, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Tammy Abraham among many others to have moved on to pastures new.
Christie-Davies joins Fabinho and Naby Keita as new additions to the Liverpool engine room although it is not expected he will be challenging for a first-team place this season.
The Brighton born youngster was part of the Chelsea team that won the FA Youth Cup in 2015 and 2016 as well as the UEFA Youth League and he will now be hoping to break into the first team at Liverpool.
For the time being though, he is expected to be with the under 23 team as he follows in the footsteps of Solanke who made the same switch last year.
Chelsea has been dominant in the youth age groups over the past five years but the pathway to their first team has been as good as blocked by a number of Managers.
Jurgen Klopp operates a different regime though with a number of prospects given a start by the German Manager at Dortmund and since he arrived at Anfield back in 2015.
Christie-Davies will be hoping he can follow in the footsteps of the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dominic Solanke who were major parts of the first team at Anfield last season.
Championship side eyeing swoop for Chelsea striker
Derby County are eyeing up a swoop for Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham this summer.
According to The Telegraph, via Bristol Post, Derby manager Frank Lampard is keen to bring Abraham in ahead of next season.
The report claims that Lampard is hoping to exploit his connections to Chelsea in order to seal a deal for the highly-rated striker.
Abraham struggled at times for Swansea last season, scoring eight goals in all competitions – with five in the Premier League as the Welsh side were relegated.
However, Abraham netted 23 Championship goals in the 2016/17 season for Bristol City on loan.
Derby is looking to replace Matej Vydra, who looks set to join Championship rivals Leeds in a deal worth £11m.
Chelsea is waiting until Maurizio Sarri is officially the club’s new manager before sanctioning any transfers, leaving Abraham in limbo for the time being.
