Chelsea transfer news: Frank Lampard to raid former club to boost Derby squad

The legendary midfielder is embarking on his first job in management after being given the reins at Derby.

And he has wasted no time in using his old contacts to try prise away Chelsea star Jay Dasilva on loan for the season, according to the Mirror.

The 20-year-old returns to the club from Charlton, where he has impressed all those from fans to national managers.

During his year at the Valley, he won the Supporter’s Player of the Year award and has won plaudits along the way – including from former Addick Ian Wright.

In a tweet from 2015, the ex-Arsenal striker said: “Jay Dasilva left back the better player than any current prem left back.”

There had been the talk of the youngster going on a two-year loan to Vitesse Arnhem.

The Dutch club is the Blues’ feeder team, and have been the beneficiaries of several Chelsea reserve players in the past.

Some include Bertrand Traore, Matt Miazga and Mason Mount, who similarly has had a stellar season in Holland.

Dasilva was also asked to train with the England first-team last year to continue his development.

Gareth Southgate was given a tip from assistant Steve Holland, who was the No.2 at Stamford Bridge before joining the national set-up.

And according to the Mirror, Lampard recently watched England’s Youn Lions beat Scotland to scout the left-back with Jody Morris, another Chelsea old boy.

Charlton boss Lee Bowyer was full of praise for the starlet too, comparing him to Ashley Cole.

Bowyer said: “I played against Ashley at a young age and I think Jay is very similar – but probably better than Ashley Cole was at his age.

“Everyone knows how good Ashley was, probably England’s best offensive left-back for a long, long time. Jay is the same.

“Everybody thinks because he’s small, he might struggle. But he’s unbelievable in the air.”

Agent hands Chelsea blow by confirming midfield is in talks with European side

Chelsea is desperately seeking additions to their first-team after missing out on Champions League football for next season but their inability to offer opportunities at the highest level looks to have come back to haunt the Blues.

The west London side is widely reported to be interested in the services of OGC Nice’s Ivory Coast international Jean-Michel Seri, said to be available this summer if his release clause of £35m is met in the market.

However, Chelsea look set to miss out as Seri’s agent, Franklin Mala, has confirmed to Radio Kiss Kiss that his client is in discussions with Napoli and is keen on the opportunity to join the Serie A runners-up.

“We are in talks with Napoli and he’s tempted by the idea of wearing the jersey. He would really like to play for Napoli and Carlo Ancelotti could get the best out of his characteristics.”

Napoli, crucially, would be able to offer Champions League football to the 26-year-old.
