Brazilian confirms his allegiance with Chelsea: “My chance will come”

Remember Nathan? He’s still on our books, and by the sound of these recent comments he has no intention of changing that anytime soon.

We first acquired the Brazilian’s services back in 2015. He joined from Atlético Paranaense for an undisclosed fee and has gone on to make a grand total of zero appearances for the club.

Nathan spent two-years with Vitesse. He struggled to make much of an impact in the Eredivisie and subsequently embarked on a new challenge with Amiens SC in Ligue 1. It was the same old story of frustration and failure.

Now 22-years-old, Nathan has begun to find his feet with Liga NOS outfit Belenenses. He made 13 league appearances in the second half of the 2017/18 campaign, finding the back of the net on two occasions.

He not only appears keen to continue his stay at the Estádio do Restelo, but Nathan has not given up hope of playing for Chelsea one day. In fact, he’s adamant that he’ll get his chance.

Nathan is quoted by Lance, with his words being translated into English by Sport Witness, as saying:

“I have a very calm head. At some point I will get my chance to play for Chelsea. I hope now to have another good season at Belenenses.”

“I’m letting go, I don’t know when this chance will appear. I have been growing as a person and as a player living in Europe and soon this dream of a Premier League will take place.”

We all know how hard it is to break free of the Chelsea loan system and make an impact on the first-team. However, if Nathan gets his head down, works hard and impresses, nothing is impossible.

As shown by the emergence of Andreas Christensen last season, being sent out on loan is by no means a dead end. The odds are stacked against Nathan, as with the rest of our starlets abroad, but if he believes, we’re backing him all the way.
