Chelsea will be looking to bounce back in style next season after giving up their Premier League title with a whimper under Antonio Conte.
The Italian saw his team fail to capture a second successive title win, and they missed out on the top four, despite adding another FA Cup to their blossoming collection of trophies on display at Stamford Bridge.
The summer promises to be a busy one for the Blues, and our landlord here in the Tavern thinks that Conte – or whoever is in charge of the club -needs to look at bringing in some world class talent if the club are to have even the remotest chance of wrestling the trophy back from Man City’s hands.
One player who has been mentioned a few times this week in conversations at the bar is Bayern Munich and Spain midfielder Thiago, who has been impressing year on year since making the switch from Barcelona.
Valued at £54m by Transfermarkt, the midfielder is a genuinely world class midfield player, and is someone who would improve most teams in world football.
Classy with the ball and hard working, Thiago is the sort of player who makes a team tick, and he has the ability to completely control the tempo and pace of a game.
It might well be a long shot for Chelsea to capture the Spaniard, but there is always a chance the Blues can tempt a player to the capital, and with Bayern winning year on year in Germany, Thiago might well welcome the challenge of trying to help win a Premier League title.
