Benfica and their Lisbon rivals Sporting seem to spit out a wonderkid a year, and the latest off the conveyor belt is Joao Felix.
Increasingly in transfer stories over the past few months, there’s now greater concentration ahead of the summer window.
Jornal de Noticias reports there’s interest from Europe’s top clubs, with Chelsea now pulled into the situation.
Jorge Mendes is said to have stepped in to negotiate a potential transfer of the 18 year old, should any of those keen come up with a good enough offer.
It’s claimed Benfica will only entertain offers close to Felix’s buyout clause of €60m, but the same article states he won’t be sold for less than €40m and there’s a chance a percentage guarantee of a future transfer could help bring the fee down a little.
Feliz is still actually a Benfica B player and hasn’t broken through to the club’s first team, at any real level. Therefore such a fee seems very high indeed and it has to be doubtful whether Chelsea would consider going to such an amount.
Even if it came down to €30m, it’s still a huge amount for the attacking midfielder, and those in charge at at Stamford Bridge may feel the risk outweighs the benefits.
Felix would almost certainly be sent on loan if he did move to Chelsea, which makes parting with a huge fee less likely.
Napoli & Chelsea line-up major summer swap deal
A few weeks ago many were still full of belief that Napoli could win the Scudetto.
But those dreams went up in smoke last weekend as Napoli lost 3-0 at Fiorentina.
Juventus are now a shoo-in to win the Serie A title yet again, while Napoli’s amazing campaign is beginning to disintegrate.
Indeed, in the past few days a rift has opened up between Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri and the club’s outspoken president, Aurelio De Laurentiis.
De Laurentiis has critcised Sarri for not using more players this season as Napoli failed to win the title. And on Sunday the Sarri backlash is revealed in the Italian press.
Maurizio Sarri & Chelsea
Several of the major papers in Italy report on the friction between Maurizio Sarri and Napoli’s De Laurentiis on Sunday.
Gazzetta dello Sport claim there are deep divisions between the warring parties at Napoli, and Sarri is tipped to leave this summer.
For the record, Sarri has another two years to run on his Napoli deal.
It’s also worth noting that Sarri has an €8 million release clause in his current deal. If Napoli sack the manager, that fee will disappear.
When it comes to predicting Sarri’s next move, Gazzetta dello Sport claim he may join Chelsea.
Antonio Conte & Napoli
Could Napoli and Chelsea end up swapping managers this summer?
That’s definitely on the cards, as Antonio Conte is now being linked with the Napoli dugout.
In Sunday’s edition of Corriere dello Sport, the Chelsea manager is listed as one of four candidates to take over from Sarri.
Aside from Conte, Carl Ancelotti is also on the Napoli radar.
Corriere dello Sport also claim that, aside from Chelsea, Borussia Dortmund and Monaco are interested in landing Sarri this summer.
