Crystal Palace are being linked with a summer move to sign former Chelsea man Andre Schurrle, according to reports in Italy.
The 27-year-old World Cup winner is well known to fans of English football, having spent a couple of seasons with Chelsea.
He has been linked with a return to England before, with Palace and West Ham both said to have been interested in signing him, but Italian website Calciomercato is reporting that the Eagles could look to firm up their interest with a bid this summer.
Schurrle, who scored 11 goals in 44 Premier League appearances for Chelsea during his time in west London, has been back in the Bundesliga since leaving the Blues, playing for both Wolfsburg and Borussia Dortmund.
Last season, he played 26 times in all competitions for Dortmund, scoring three goals.
He has 57 caps to his name for Germany and has scored 22 times for his country, helping Joachim Low’s side to World Cup success in Brazil in 2014.
He has not, however, been included in Germany’s preliminary squad for the World Cup in Russia this summer.
Schurrle also has a Premier League winner’s medal from his time with Chelsea.
Pat Nevin sends message to Chelsea FC supporters about Willian
Pat Nevin believes Willian could be unhappy with his lack of playing time at Chelsea FC given the World Cup this summer.
The Brazil international came off the bench to feature in the final minutes of Chelsea FC’s 1-0 win against Manchester United in the FA Cup final at Wembley last weekend.
Willian took to Instagram to post a photo with the Chelsea FC squad and staff celebrating their FA Cup success but obscured his manager Antonio Conte with three trophy emojis.
The South American forward has been linked with a move to Manchester United since his former boss Jose Mourinho took over the reins at Old Trafford.
Given Willian’s current rift with Conte, the Brazilian is being heavily tipped with a switch to Manchester United in the 2018 summer transfer window.
Former Chelsea FC winger Nevin delivered his verdict on what could be going on behind the scenes between Conte and Willian.
“I could make a massively speculated guess why it has come about,” Nevin told Irish radio station Newstalk.
“He is a world class player and he isn’t getting a game. This is a World Cup season and he must have been really fearful he was going to miss out on the Brazilian squad.”
The 29-year-old has scored six goals and has made seven assists in 20 starts and 16 substitute appearances in the Premier League this season.
The Blues star netted three times and made one assist in eight games in the Champions League.
Willian impressed in Chelsea FC’s 1-1 draw with FC Barcelona in the Champions League earlier this term.
