Antonio Rudiger believes he can match the fleet-footed Mohamed Salah stride-for-stride when Chelsea meet Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
Egyptian star Salah has enjoyed a sensational debut season at Anfield, scoring 43 goals across all competitions while inspiring his team to the Champions League final.
The Reds return to Premier League action when they visit Stamford Bridge and a positive result will make absolutely sure of a top four finish.
Rudiger and Salah will know one another’s games inside out as they both played together at Roma last season before making big-money moves to England.
And while many defenders this season have been terrorised by Salah’s blistering pace, Rudiger isn’t fazed in the slightest.
He told the BBC’s Football Focus: ‘If I play, it will be a direct duel against Salah. The good thing is, I’m not slow!’
Although they will be direct rivals on Sunday, Germany international Rudiger is thrilled his former team-mate has prospered on his return to the Premier League, having struggled to make an impression during his own spell at Chelsea.
Rudiger added: ‘To be very honest, he is the most polite guy I have ever met in football. He is a fantastic person.
‘Of course, you are always a bit surprised but I know his abilities and his potential and I knew he would be good for Liverpool.’
Salah was on target as Liverpool and Chelsea drew 1-1 at Anfield back in November, with Willian scoring the London club’s late equaliser.
Do you think the German can contain Salah?
