Shaka Hislop has urged Chelsea FC not to make a hasty decision about Alvaro Morata’s future at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues were linked with a bid to re-sign Belgium international Romelu Lukaku in a deal from Everton in the 2017 summer transfer window.
Chelsea FC lost out to Manchester United after Lukaku opted to reunite with Jose Mourinho in a £75m switch last summer.
The west London side turned their focus to Morata and recruited the Spain international in a club record £60m deal from La Liga giants Real Madrid.
Morata netted nine times in his opening eight games in all competitions but injuries and a loss of form halted his progress at Stamford Bridge.
The 24-year-old finished the season with 11 goals in 31 games in the Premier League this term to fuel speculation surrounding his future.
The Spanish forward has been linked with a return to Serie A champions Juventus this summer after less than 12 months since his move to Chelsea FC.
Former West Ham goalkeeper Hislop believes Morata shouldn’t be sold in the summer, especially given the uncertainty surrounding Antonio Conte’s future.
“There’s a couple of things at play here,” Hislop told ESPN FC.
“We’re still not quite sure who the Chelsea manager will be next season and whether Morata fits into his plans and whether that manager will bring the best out of him.
“At the same time, it’s a bit soon to talk about cutting ties with him.”
Chelsea FC will take on their bitter rivals Manchester United in the FA Cup final at Wembley at the weekend.
Man United set to hold talks with Chelsea FC star about summer move – report
Manchester United are set to hold informal discussions with Chelsea FC star Willian about a summer move to Old Trafford, according to a report in England.
Manchester Evening News is reporting that the Red Devils are looking to sign the Brazil international in the 2018 summer transfer window to bolster Jose Mourinho’s squad.
The same article states that Willian’s representatives have already held “preliminary discussions” with Manchester United over a controversial switch to Old Trafford.
Willian has struggled to hold down a regular starting spot under Antonio Conte since the Italian coach was appointed as Jose Mourinho’s permanent successor in 2016.
The Portuguese coach signed Willian from Russian football during his second spell in charge of Chelsea FC before Mourinho was axed in 2015 following their Premier League title success.
According to the same story, Manchester United believe Willian would be the ideal signing to add more pace and power to the wing and allow some of the club’s prospects the time to develop.
Willian has won two Premier League titles and the League Cup during his five seasons at Stamford Bridge.
