Rafa Benitez believes Newcastle’s best hope of re-signing Chelsea winger Kenedy could be another loan deal.
The Brazilian has helped transform the Magpies’ season since arriving at St James’ Park in January and the manager wants to extend his stay.
Kenedy told the Daily Mail on Friday that he is happy on Tyneside and open to a return, although Benitez fears that the uncertainty surrounding the managerial situation at Stamford Bridge does not help their cause.
To that end, it could well be that a loan arrangement is the most likely option for Newcastle.
‘I have seen the interview and what he said. I know his agent, so the point with him is that he’s doing well,’ said Benitez, who had wanted to sign Kenedy last summer.
‘I am happy because we’ve been winning and he’s been scoring goals and that’s fantastic for us and really good news for him.
‘The situation is that Chelsea needs to know where they will finish and we need to know where we will finish. There is plenty of time to talk.
‘But if you’re asking me (if the loan is perhaps the best option), I’d say yes, you’d have to ask them as well.
‘It wasn’t easy to bring him here and it won’t be easy to bring him here again.’
Kenedy’s form has seen the likes of Bayern Munich credited with an interest in the winger, and Benitez added: ‘You can’t change that. If you want to win games and he’s doing well you have to play him if he’s doing even better than fine, fair enough.
‘It will be more difficult for us, for sure, but he’s so happy he’ll be keen to stay.’
PSV have their eye on Chelsea defender
ED analyzed PSV’s plans for the summer transfer market on Saturday and revealed that the club is on the lookout for several new signings.
Ajax defender Nick Viergever is set to sign in the coming weeks, while they are also looking to strengthen their midfield and attack with several star players expected to leave including Luuk de Jong, Hirving Lozano, and Jeroen Zoet.
The report also revealed that PSV has been keeping an eye on 17-year-old Chelsea defender Jonathan Panzo as a potential recruit for their U23 side. Panzo, who made two appearances in this season’s UEFA Youth League, can be deployed in the center of defense or at left-back.
