LIONEL MESSI wants Barcelona to sign Chelsea star Marcos Alonso this summer.
The Spain international has been crucial for the Blues following his move to Stamford Bridge in 2016.
Alonso, 27, guided Antonio Conte’s side to the Premier League title last time out.
The defender has also impressed this season under Conte, despite Chelsea’s disastrous title defence, which sees the Blues 27 points behind champions Manchester City.
And according to Spanish news outlet Don Balon, who are well known for their outlandish transfer claims, Alonso could be heading to Barca this summer.
They reckon Nou Camp key man Messi has told club chiefs to sign Alonso at the end of the season.
The Argentina international feels the Spaniard would provide competition for places at the Nou Camp, with Jordi Alba currently Ernesto Valverde’s only option at left-back.
Don Balon also say that Real Madrid are also tracking the Chelsea star ahead of the summer transfer window.
However, Messi is desperate for Barca to beat their La Liga rivals to the defender.
The bookies have also tipped Alonso to quit Stamford Bridge for the Nou Camp this summer.
BetStars spokesman Ian Marmion said: “Barcelona are rumoured to be lining up Marcos Alonso as a shock long-term replacement for Gerard Pique, who turns 32 next year.
“The 6’2” defender has excelled at wing-back for Chelsea, but it appears the Catalan club see Alonso’s future at centre-back as they eye a move for the 27-year-old.”
Chelsea are back in action on Saturday afternoon when the Blues face Swansea at the Liberty Stadium in the Premier League (5:30pm kick-off).
