Chelsea are ready to pay upwards of £40million to sign defender Toby Alderweireld from Tottenham, according to reports.
The Belgian was left our of the Spurs side as they beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon and it looks like he will be leaving the club at the end of the season.
Alderweireld is said to be unhappy with the contract offer that Spurs have made to him and as his deal starts to run down, a decision about his future needs to be made.
Chelsea have apparently let it be known that they’d be interested in signing the 29-year-old if he becomes available, but they’ll face competition from the likes of Barcelona, Manchester United, PSG and Real Madrid.
Chelsea’s loss to Tottenham at the weekend has made Champions League qualification look very unlikely, so that could play a factor in Alderweireld’s decision in terms of joining the Blues if a deal with Spurs can be negotiated.
