Sporting CP & Bruno Fernandes
According to Portuguese daily A Bola on Monday, Chelsea have made contact with highly-rated Sporting CP midfielder Bruno Fernandes.
Bruno Fernandes has starred for the Lions this season.
In 53 games for Sporting in all competitions, the Portuguese international has scored 16 goals and chipped in 20 assists.
It could be a superb summer for Fernandes, who should be in the Portugal squad and team during the World Cup.
‘Chelsea make contact’
So what does Chelsea’s contact mean?
Apparently Chelsea are looking to sound out whether Fernandes would be keen on a move to Stamford Bridge.
But, as confirmed by Sport Witness, the cost for Fernandes is high.
Sporting CP have a 100 million euro release clause in the player’s contract. And Fernandes is under contract with Sporting until 2022.
Liverpool & Spurs in the race
Aside from Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham are also being linked with the midfielder. Sport Witness note:
Liverpool and Tottenham are said to be ‘lurking’, previous claimed stated the Anfield club have held meeting’s with Fernandes’ agents, and Spurs have been scouting him.
Elsewhere, Atletico Madrid and Juventus have also been name-dropped as possible suitors for Fernandes.
Can Sporting win the title?
The race ti win the Portuguese title is set to go to the wire. In a shock result over the weekend, Benfica were beaten 3-2 at home by Tondela. That’s allowed Sporting CP to draw level with the Eagles on 77 points.
FC Porto, however, have opened up a five point lead in first place with just two rounds remaining in the season.
