Antonio Conte has left his job as Chelsea manager, according to a huge claim made by journalist Pete O’Rourke.
Conte oversaw another disappointing result yesterday as Chelsea were held to a 1-1 draw by West Ham, which left the Blues 10 points off the top four.
Chelsea can save their season by winning the FA Cup, where they take on Southampton in the semi-finals.
But it’s been claimed Conte won’t be in charge for the Wembley clash with Saints.
O’Rourke posted on Twitter: “Looking likely that Antonio Conte has left Chelsea.”
Chelsea have been hotly tipped to snap up Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski.
Bookies Coral have slashed their odds on the Poland international moving to Stamford Bridge from 4/1 to just 2/1.
The experienced forward is 6/4 to join Real Madrid, while Manchester United are 5/2 to land his services.
“Chelsea are sure to be in the market for a striker this summer,” said a Coral spokesman.
“And punters believe Robert Lewandowski is top of their shopping list as they are backing the Poland international to join the West London club.”
Paul Merson believes Conte is a dead man walking at Stamford Bridge and is predicting Chelsea stars Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois to leave this summer.
Merson told Starsport: “Antonio Conte is on his way out, but I can’t see the owner spending bundles of money in the summer. I can see Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois leaving.
“These are worrying times for Chelsea. I don’t see any way back for them. I think they’re going to be also-rans again next season.
“Other teams have come flying past them and will only get stronger. Tottenham and Liverpool are already ahead of them.
“Manchester United will spend big again.
“I don’t see City dropping out of the top four either, so Chelsea could be out of the Champions League for years to come in my opinion – just like Arsenal.
“It’s a big worry because that Chelsea team isn’t good enough and whoever takes over from Conte in the summer is going to realise that pretty quick.”
From Germany: Tuchel replaces Conte as the favourite to take over PSG
It looks like PSG’s manager for next season already is confirmed by the media, as German outlet Sportbuzzer claim Thomas Tuchel will join the French side once the current season ends.
Although nothing is official yet, the announcement is imminent and is expected to be revealed as soon as the Parisian team secures title of Ligue 1. According to ‘Sportbuzzer’, the contract will keep Tuchel at the club for two seasons, with the option of extending his stay for one more year.
Other candidates were Carlo Ancelotti, Luis Enrique and Antonio Conte. Reports suggest that the fact that Tuchel speaks perfect French has been one of the points in favour of the German, despite the fact that Conte seemed destined to join the club just weeks ago.
The German coach has been out of contract for a year since leaving Borussia Dortmund. His arrival will logically imply the farewell of Unai Emery.
