Chelsea are set to retain the services of backup goalkeeper Willy Caballero ahead of next season, according to Goal.
The Argentine shot-stopper has played second fiddle to Thibaut Courtois throughout the course of his maiden campaign at Stamford Bridge. However, it’s stated that he remains content with his situation at Chelsea.
Caballero joined Antonio Conte’s side on a free transfer last summer after Manchester City decided against offering him a contract renewal.
The 36-year-old penned a short-term deal at Chelsea last summer but it’s believed that this was with the option to extend for a further year.
It seems the Blues will take advantage of this clause and ensure that Caballero is on the books for next season.
Caballero, who has recently been recalled to the Argentina national squad, has provided sound backup to Courtois but the Belgian shot-stopper’s situation at Chelsea is currently uncertain.
The goalkeeper’s contract talks with the club are at an impasse and Real Madrid continue to be linked with him.
