Antonio Conte has revealed that David Luiz is likely to be sidelined for around three weeks with a knee injury.
The Brazilian defender has been struggling for both form and fitness this season and he has failed to hold down a regular spot in the first team at Stamford Bridge.
Indeed, the 30-year-old has only made a total of 10 appearances in the Premier League for the west London side so far this season.
He has not lined up for Chelsea FC since their 4-1 loss to Watford in the Premier League back at the start of February and it remains to be seen how much of a role he will play in Conte’s team between now and the end of the season.
And the Chelsea FC boss has revealed that the Brazilian will definitely miss the Blues’ clash with Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.
Speaking at a news conference at Chelsea FC’s Cobham training base on Thursday, Conte said: “David Luiz is out, at least for around another three weeks. He’s recovering from a problem in his knee.”
He continued: “The solution would be to play Cahill in the middle but we will try to recover Christensen. Ampadu is injured and unavailable for the rest of the season.”
Chelsea FC are currently in fifth place in the Premier League table as they bid to try and get back into the top four before the season is out.
The west London side are looking to break back into the Champions League qualification spots and know that a win over Spurs would reduce their gap to the Lilywhites down to two points.
