Antonio Conte has confirmed David Luiz, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Ross Barkley will play no part in Sunday’s Premier League clash against Manchester United.
Brazilian defender Luiz has been plagued by injury problems this season, featuring in just four of Chelsea’s 13 fixtures in 2018.
Tiemoue Bakayoko’s last appearance for the Blues came at the start of the month against Watford – he was sent off just 30 minutes into the match and Chelsea lost 4-1.
Ross Barkley made his debut for the reigning champions last month against Arsenal, following his £15m move from Everton, but has only played a part in two games since.
Asked whether the trio are back available for selection ahead of this weekend’s trip to Old Trafford, Conte said:
‘No, they are out. ‘There is no fresh injury concerns – all the other players are available.’
Chelsea lost two straight league games at the start of the month to slip to fourth in the Premier League, just one point above London rivals Tottenham.
But the Blues face Manchester United on the back of Tuesday’s promising 1-1 draw with Barcelona. Lionel Messi cancelled out Willian’s opener in the last-16 clash at Stamford Bridge.
‘After two bad defeats we won against West Brom and Hull and then another good game against Barcelona,’ Conte said. ‘It can happen to lose two games.
‘Against Bournemouth we created many chances, Watford was a really bad game. This is the past, for this reason we must be focused for the next game and prepare in the right way.
‘We are talking about at a really strong team. We must pay great attention because when you play United you have to know that anything can happen.’
Conte was involved in a war of words with Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho earlier in the season but refused to be drawn into further controversy at his pre-match press conference on Friday.
‘I think we have both said things in the past, okay, I’m not interested to speak about this topic,’ Conte added.
Asked whether he would shake Mourinho’s hand before and after the match, Conte responded: ‘I’m not interested in this [topic].’
