MANCHESTER UNITED and Chelsea cannot afford to lose this Sunday in the Premier League.
That’s the opinion of Paul Merson who believes Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte will play out a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford.
Both teams could do with a big win as they look for momentum as we enter the business end of the season.
United and Chelsea are both in a battle to finish in the top four with a title tilt now out of the question thanks to Manchester City being 16 points clear.
But Merson believes neither team can afford to lose the crunch Premier League match.
He told Sky Sports: “It’s a must-not-lose game for both teams.
“If United win this, they almost put Chelsea to bed with a six-point gap, with Palace next up for them.
“Chelsea, meanwhile, go to Man City next, which will be hugely difficult.
“If Manchester United lose this, there could be a point between four teams in the top-four race, that’s too close for comfort for United given they’ve been around second place for the entire season.”
Chelsea currently sit fourth in the table, a point clear of Tottenham.
United are second, three points ahead of the Blues going into the Old Trafford clash.
Mourinho and Conte will want their sides to pick up a win as they face tricky spells afterwards in both Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League.
United face Crystal Palace while Chelsea travel to take on the imperious City after the game at Old Trafford.
