Frank Lampard believes Olivier Giroud is a useful player to have in the Chelsea FC squad.
The France international completed a deadline day move to the defending Premier League champions from their bitter London rivals Arsenal.
Chelsea FC are reported to have paid a transfer fee in the region of £21m to sign the experienced 31-year-old centre-forward.
The Blues were linked with a host of different strikers in the January transfer window but were left frustrated in their pursuit of a target man.
Indeed, Chelsea FC were unable to agree personal terms with Bosnia and AS Roma striker Edin Dzeko after being linked with a move for West Ham’s injury-prone Andy Carroll.
Giroud made one start and a further 15 appearances from the bench in the 2017-18 Premier League season after falling further down the pecking order at Arsenal.
However, former Chelsea FC star Lampard believes Giroud will prove a good signing even if the France international doesn’t exactly fit the profile of the club.
“It’s a different idea for Chelsea,” Lampard told BT Sport Premier League Tonight on Wednesday night.
“I suppose it’s a good signing, the fact that you’re getting an experienced target man who can play in the Champions League.
“I think he’ll be very useful for Chelsea”
Chelsea FC are in fourth place in the Premier League table and behind Liverpool FC on goal difference following a 3-0 loss to Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.
The Blues signed Ross Barkley, Emerson Palmieri and Giroud in the January transfer window.
