Forget Bakayoko: Conte should make this surprising team selection choice against Barcelona

The Chelsea fans are getting increasingly concerned ahead of their side’s Champions League clash with Barcelona.

The Blues are set to take on the Catalan giants on Tuesday, and it’s fair to say that the La Liga outfit are the firm favourites for the clash.

Chelsea, undoubtedly, are going to have to defend for their lives and remain rigid, and so ahead of the game, the fans have been discussing Conte’s potential team selection.

The Blues are going to need a solid first team, and so naturally, a midfield duo of Tiemoue Bakayoko and N’Golo Kante makes sense.

Sure, Bakayoko hasn’t enjoyed the best season, but he’s out injured as Conte has confirmed in the presser after Hull win.

Certainly, on the surface, Bakayoko seemed like a good choice – but some fans thinks that selecting David Luiz might make even more sense.

After all, the Brazilian has played in the position before – and he has excelled. Particularly during his first stint at Stamford Bridge, Luiz played regularly through the middle alongside Nemanja Matic.

He has all the traits to succeed. The 30-year-old can dribble, he can pass, he can tackle – he can do it all. His lack of action this season isn’t down to him, but rather it’s down to the fine form of some of Chelsea’s other defenders.

He’s still every bit as good as he was last season, where he was arguably one of the Blues’ best players.

He’s not going to play in defence, given the rise of Andreas Christensen, and so he’d no doubt be up for the challenge if it means getting on the pitch.

We all know that he can be prone to a mistake, but through the midfield, that becomes less of an issue – given that there will be an additional line of defence behind him.

It’s a risk from Conte, and it would certainly be a shock, given that he hasn’t played there recently, but it makes a lot of sense – agreed?
