As per a report from the Daily Mail this afternoon, Chelsea could open to the idea of allowing Michy Batshuayi to move to Borussia Dortmund on a permanent basis this summer, if the German outfit allow winger Christian Pulisic to move in the other direction.
Batshuayi, a 24-year-old Belgian international striker, has been on the books at Stamford Bridge since his arrival from Ligue 1 outfit Marseille in the summer of 2016.
However, despite the hefty 40 million Euro transfer fee splashed out on his services, along with the weighty expectations on his young shoulders, Batshuayi has since struggled for regular game-time at Stamford Bridge.
On the move
As such, when the Blues announced the arrival of Olivier Giroud at the club from London rivals Arsenal on transfer deadline day two weeks ago, it was widely expected that Batshuayi would be moving on, at least temporarily.
In the end, the chain reaction of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s departure from Borussia Dortmund for Arsenal (which in turn allowed Giroud to make the move to Stamford Bridge) saw the ‘Batsman’ replace ‘Auba’ at the Westfalenstadion on loan for the remainder of the season.
Batshuayi has since enjoyed a stellar start to life in Germany, having racked up 5 goals and an assist in his 3 Dortmund appearances to date.
Speaking in an interview earlier this week, BVB CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke was questioned on whether his side had attempted to secure an option for the permanent purchase of Batshuayi come the end of his loan in the summer, with the German confirming as much, as well as revealing exactly why such a deal was a no-go from the off:
Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke confirms: “We tried our best to get a permanent option for Michy Batshuayi, but it was a no go for Chelsea. When Roman Abramovich says ‘no’, it is a ‘no’.” #cfc pic.twitter.com/kCNXtJdx8V

However, as per another update since, Watzke revealed that the board at the Westfalenstadion maintain a glimmer of hope of convincing Chelsea to part ways with Batshuayi on a permanent basis:
‘There is always a chance, although if he scores in every game, it will be difficult.’
And, as per the aforementioned report from the Daily Mail, Borussia Dortmund may in fact hold the key to any potential deal within their current squad, in the form of teenage sensation Christian Pulisic.
Pulisic has emerged as one of world football’s most highly-regarded prospects over the last couple of seasons, after breaking into Dortmund’s first-team setup at the tender age of 17.
The American youngster, who has already been capped 20 times for his country (and notched 9 goals in that span) has since gone from strength to strength, with his incredible close control, ability to beat his man at will and eye for goal having seen Pulisic added to the wishlist of a number of European heavyweights.
Liverpool have long been named as admirers of the talents of the Pennsylvania native, with growing reports over the last couple of weeks have indicated that the Reds have been joined by Manchester United in expressing an interest in Pulisic.
Stamford Bridge bound?
But, if stories emerging from English outlets this afternoon are to be believed, then it looks as though Premier League champions Chelsea are the side who in fact hold the upper hand regarding Pulisic, with Chelsea said to be open to the idea of allowing Michy Batshuayi to move to Signal Iduna Park on a permanent basis come the summer, if the American teen is included in the deal.
If such a transfer were to come to fruition, though, then the Blues would likely have to include a hefty sum on top of Batshuayi, with rumours over recent weeks having claimed that BVB value Pulisic at around 100 million Euro.
