Antonio Conte has revealed that he opted to rest both Eden Hazard and N’Golo Kante for Chelsea FC’s clash against Hull City so they would be fresh for the showdown with FC Barcelona next week.
The pair were left out of the matchday squad along with Cesar Azpilicueta as Chelsea FC secured a dominant 4-0 victory over the Tigers to book their place in the sixth round of the FA Cup.
Chelsea FC now switch their attentions towards their crunch showdown with FC Barcelona at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night as they look to try and book their place in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
And Conte has revealed that he simply aimed to give the key trio a rest to make sure that they will be ready for their crunch showdown with the Spanish side next week.
Speaking to BT Sport before the game on Friday night, Conte said: “I think Hazard, Kante and [Cesar] Azpilicueta are playing a lot and it’s right to give them the possibility to rest.
“I give them good training and give them the best physical condition.
“I think every competition is important for Chelsea and our target is to do best in every competition, to fight for every competition.”
Chelsea FC are aiming to progress as far as possible in Europe’s elite club competition after they missed out on a place in the Champions League altogether last season.
The Blues currently find themselves in fourth place in the Premier League table as they at least bid to finish in the top four in Conte’s second campaign in charge.
