Charly Musonda scored a deadly double in Chelsea Under-21s’ win over Portsmouth last night.
The Belgian winger has been on the fringes of Antonio Conte’s squad this season, but has made just six first team appearances so games for their U21s in the EFL Trophy could be important for him.
He scored in their 4-0 win over MK Dons in the previous round and followed that up with two goals against Portsmouth last night.
And those proved pivotal, particularly the second goal which came three minutes after Brett Pitman’s 93rd-minute equaliser for the Fratton Park side.
Musonda would have been hyped up as one to watch for Portsmouth going into the game and he lived up to that with both goals:
How good was that free-kick?
If Musonda was having a problem proving himself to Conte then last night’s performance should certainly help him out.
The 21-year-old attacker has made no secret of his want for more first team opportunities and, you’d imagine, if they don’t come this month then he may find himself out on loan getting them during the second half of the season.
