Chelsea have dipped into the transfer market once this month as they signed England midfielder Ross Barkley from Everton.
The 24-year-old isn’t expected to be the only new arrival at Stamford Bridge in January, but time is running out for the Blues to get more business done as the window closes next Wednesday, and they’ve been linked with a host of players – including Peter Crouch and Ashley Barnes.
Following the midweek loss at the hands of Arsenal in the Carabao Cup semi-final, Antonio Conte bemoaned the lack of options at his disposal especially after losing Willian to injury in the first-half at the Emirates Stadium.
Between now and deadline day, the West London outfit are in action against Newcastle United and Bournemouth meaning there’s not much the Italian will be able to do in terms of affecting any deals in the pipeline.
Here’s the latest transfer news surrounding the Blues at the moment…
Vardy dismisses Chelsea links
Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy has said there’s no truth in the rumours linking him with a move to Chelsea this month.
With the Blues actively pursuing a centre-forward to ease the pressure on out of form top scorer Alvaro Morata, a host of options have been touted as possible solutions during the January transfer window and one of them is the England international.
However, Vardy has moved to quash speculation.
“Who have I been linked with today? Chelsea, they’ve been linked with everybody haven’t they? “You just have to take things like this with a pinch of salt, it’s just rumours. Usually, it all gets started by someone throwing a few quid on it at the bookies.
“I’m a Leicester player and I’m just concentrating on Leicester until the club tell me otherwise and we will be looking to progress to the next round of the cup.”
Blues struggling to complete Dzeko and Palmieri deals.
With the transfer window set to close in five days, the Blues remain hopeful of concluding a double swoop for Roma duo Edin Dzeko and Emerson Palmieri – but they are running out of time and are yet to reach an agreement over personal terms, reports Gianluca Di Marzio.
Chelsea have set a deadline (today) to get the deals over the line…otherwise they’ll move on.
Giroud and Kurzawa on standby.
If Chelsea can’t secure the signatures of Dzeko and Palmieri then they’ll turn attentions elsewhere, reports Calciomercato.
Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud, who has been linked with an exit this month in search of regular first-team football, is a loan target – although Arsene Wenger has stated the Frenchman is going nowhere unless a replacement is signed – and Layvin Kurzawa of PSG is an alternative to Palmieri.
David Luiz decides to stay
It’s been a strange season for the Brazilian. Despite helping the side reclaim the Premier League title last year he’s fallen out of favour under Antonio Conte which has prompted speculation he could leave the club for a second time.
Linked with a surprise move to Arsenal as well as Newcastle United among others this month, the Daily Star have reported that Luiz has opted to remain at Stamford Bridge.
The reason behind this is because the defender is convinced Conte won’t be at the club come next season.
Odds on Conte leaving are slashed.
Speaking of the Italian tactician, he is 4/1 with bookmakers Ladbrokes to become the new manager of Paris Saint-Germain in the summer.
With his second season in England being a relative struggle coupled with his complaints in regards to the club’s transfer activity, all the signs point towards Conte parting ways with the Blues at the end of the season.
Unai Emery should be concerned…
Ex-Chelsea striker is on the move again.
Loic Remy looks set to join La Liga outfit Getafe on loan from Las Palmas, according to reports in Spain.
The Frenchman only arrived at the Spanish club in the summer, but is on the move again. He was linked with a return to the Premier League at Watford, but those links have quickly been dismissed.
