Paul Merson is tipping Chelsea FC to finish in fifth place in the Premier League table this season.
The Blues have dropped down into fourth place in the Premier League table after their disappointing goalless draw at the hands of Leicester City last weekend at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea were crowned as champions in Antonio Conte’s first season in charge at Stamford Bridge last term but they did not have the distraction of any European football.
It seems that the west London side are struggling to cope with competing for European silverware as well as the domestic competitions this season.
And former Arsenal star Merson is tipping the Blues to end up in fifth place in the Premier League table this season and miss out on Champions League qualification.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Merson said: “At the moment I’m worried about Chelsea. They’re not scoring goals and they don’t even look like they’re going to.
“Michy Batshuayi looks like he’s on his way out so they’ll be down to one striker and Alvaro Morata is only going to get more tired as the season goes on.”
Chelsea will look to get back to winning ways in the Premier League on Saturday lunchtime when they take on Brighton and Hove Albion.
The Blues have already been active in the January transfer window after signing midfielder Ross Barkley from Everton at the start of the month.
Chelsea will take on FC Barcelona for a place in the quarter-finals of the Champions League starting next month.
