Manchester United have reportedly opened transfer talks Chelsea over a January swoop for David Luiz.
The Brazilian centre-back has fallen out of favour with the Premier League champions following a row with boss Antonio Conte.
He was kept out of the Chelsea side for 12 games, reportedly with injury, before being included against Norwich in the FA Cup draw this weekend.
According to CaughtOffside.com, Mourinho has been in touch with his former employees regarding the purchase of Luiz.
United have a strong relationship with the Blues following the transfer of Nemanja Matic in the summer.
However, the two managers have recently been exchanging public insults which could put any move in jeopardy.
But Mourinho thinks he will still be able to land his man and bolster his defensive options.
The Red Devils splashed out €35million (£30.8m) to land Victor Lindelof in the summer.
But he has failed to live up to his reputation and Luiz’s arrival could push him down the Old Trafford pecking order.
The two clubs have yet to agree on a fee for Luiz, but initial inquiries have been made, it is said.
