Frank Lampard has warned Ross Barkley that it’s now time for him to step up and prove himself consistently following his transfer to Chelsea FC.
The 24-year-old midfielder completed a £15m transfer to Stamford Bridge from Everton on Friday as the west London side moved quickly to secure their first signing of the January window.
Barkley will now be hoping to stake his claim for a regular spot in the first team at Stamford Bridge as he looks to help Chelsea enjoy a successful second half of the campaign.
Lampard feels that it is now time for the England star to step his game up and prove himself as being worthy of a regular spot in the first team at Stamford Bridge this season.
Speaking to BT Sport on Saturday night, former midfielder Lampard said: “Now it’s down to Ross.
“We’ve seen loads of great clips of ability, top corners, dribbling… but at Everton he only managed to do it in fits and spurts. At Chelsea it will be different.
“You must do this regularly, you must add other things to your game, you must be disciplined in your play… and I think Ross can live up to it, but he’s going to have to work very hard now.”
Chelsea are now preparing for the first leg of their League Cup semi-final clash against Arsenal at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.
It remains to be seen how much other business Chelsea will do in the current transfer window as Antonio Conte looks to further strengthen his squad.
The Blues will take on FC Barcelona in the last 16 of the Champions League next month.
